It is L.B. Foster Rail Technologies’ dynamic technology-driven approach which provides proprietary solutions to control friction between the wheel and the rail for transit and freight rail industries. These are available on board the train as well as trackside.

These on-board solutions serve to reduce, increase or control friction at the wheel/rail interface to reduce costs and improve performance. One such solution is our solid stick friction product range, which is simple to use, simple to install, is clean and environmentally friendly.

Top of Rail Friction Modifier

L.B. Foster Rail Technologies’ Kelsan® HPF (High Positive Friction) Solid Stick Top of Rail Friction Modifier is applied directly to the wheel treads of the rail vehicle and the HPF material provides a micron-thick ‘thin film’ layer between the wheel tread and the top of the rail. This provides a friction level of 0.35 (µ) on the wheel/rail interface of the rail system.

HPF On Board Sticks are applied using a spring-loaded bracket/applicator assembly being specifically designed and built for each customer. The bracket/applicator assembly is attached to the bogie frame of the rail vehicle.

Wheel Flange Lubrication

L.B. Foster Rail Technologies’ Kelsan® LCF (Low Coefficient of Friction) Solid Stick Gauge Wheel Flange Lubricant is applied directly to the wheel flange of a rail vehicle. The LCF material transfers to the wheel flange and in turn to the gauge face of the rail. A ‘thin film’ is left behind on the gauge face of the rail that provides superior lubrication to the wheel/rail interface throughout the railway system.

LCF On Board Sticks are applied via a vehicle-mounted spring-loaded bracket/applicator assembly being specifically designed and built for each customer. The bracket/applicator assembly is attached to the bogie frame of the rail vehicle. The Kelsan® LCF On Board wheel flange lubrication system provides a 100% dry, environmental solution that avoids contamination of the track structure, ballast or vehicle equipment.

Keltrack On Board

Is a mobile top-of-rail application system. This advanced technology can be installed onboard a freight car or locomotive and applies KELTRACK® friction modifiers to the wheel/rail interface. The AUTOPILOT system uses GPS control to automatically adjust product application rates to optimize the friction levels at the wheel/rail interface. This flexible control technology can incorporate geo fencing as well as normal operating inputs to create a customized application strategy if required. These mobile systems are customized specifically fit any car or locomotive and aim to maximize tank volume capacity to meet the service needs of the customer.

The KOB Autopilot system is also supported by Remote Performance Monitoring (RPM) technology. RPM is a powerful tool that enables customers to manage critical control settings to ensure optimal performance
