Fifteen of London Underground Limited’s rail depots and sidings have undergone a major programme of capital investment to improve safety for staff and increase the security of assets. Improvements are the result of a number of incidents involving intruders that have compromised site and individual safety.

L.B. Foster Telecoms were contracted by infrastructure specialist J Murphy & Sons, on behalf of Arriva Rail London, to deliver station upgrade and refurbishment works in compliance with specifications detailed by London Overground Rail Operations Ltd (LOROL).
Security is a key concern for the Service Control Centre. L.B. Foster Telecoms was commissioned to undertake a detailed design of a fully integrated Access Control and CCTV system on a fibre ring, controlling all access to the site.
The DICORA S system is a desktop solution built specifically for controller positions in the rail environment. It’s a compact terminal which uses touch-oriented navigation to manage high call volumes and address multiple areas of responsibility efficiently.
This project seeks to provide additional station improvements, which will offer a much-improved passenger experience by relieving overcrowding, improving vertical circulation, and providing a more integrated Concourse, offering intuitive connection with airport terminals and/or onward travel.
Millions of passengers passing through the new Farringdon station on the Elizabeth line will benefit from new, fully integrated station communications systems installed by L.B. Foster Telecoms.
We worked closely with Dyer and Butler and DLR, drawing on our extensive experience of working on similar schemes in the rail sector to install, commission and handover a fully compatible SISS at each station.
